He wasn't terribly surprised to hear she had been planning to stay far away from it, "I know," he murmured softly, "I truly am sorry... I didn't think far enough ahead on that one," he shook his head at himself. Hearing her say she'd at least think about it brought a ghost of a smile to his face.
He snorted a little at the exasperation in his voice, looking off towards a nearby window. "Yeah, that's fair," he murmured. "Don't worry, doc, I'm a good patient," he said absently, mostly because his mind was wandering elsewhere. Not its usual feverish pitch towards an idea, an experiment, an equation, a problem, but rather a sort of meandering thought process, which was probably as relaxed as he could be when a problem was still unsolved.
He was just trying to be more mindful of the fact that the output of the equation had to factor in not making her feel this way again. And that meant being more thorough and running ideas through her extensive efforts. He'd have to find his own, having been experimenting off and on with it during his time at the Ministry, using their resources to his advantage. Though they'd wanted his research for more aggressive purposes, a thing he was gladly able to take off the table by coming to Hogwarts. While it'd be helpful with werewolves that weren't exactly friendly to the general populace, he didn't want it being used against people who were just trying to get by.
